EYOC & KOPAONIK OPEN

Last weekend on Kopaonik, ski resort in Serbia, was held EYOC (European Youth Orienteering Championships) and Kopaonik Open (as Public event). I participated in Kopaonik open in M21A class among 18 other competitors. It was my first time running on Kopaonik, usually go there in winter for skiing.

First day - long distance Kadijevac

The first day race was 8000m long with 21 control points on a quite techicaly difficult terain for orienteering. I made several big mistakes and at the end I was 36 minutes behind the first and very dissapointed how I had run that day. Also I twisted my knee, but it wasn't serious as I thought at the first moment. I was able to run two others days, but a little bit slower.

Second day - Middle distance Markov kamen (Marco's rock)

The second day race was 3600m long with 18 control points and my running was slow but much precise than on the first day. I was 13 minutes behind the first, but much satisfied with my map reading.

Third day - Sprint race Pajino Preslo

Sprint race was 1800m long with 15 control points and I made few mistakes around 5 minutes total and reached 10th place with 7 minutes behind the winner.

Complete results are here.

Lesson learned: In the next period I should more concentrate on my map reading and try to improve it for the next competitions. I'm planning to participate in Hungaria Cup, public event during the WOC and do some more trainigs to improve my technique, both running and map reading. Next competition in Serbia is on Zlatibor at the end of August and it sholud be very interesting. Also very interesting and demanding competition will be near Paraćin at the beginning of September.

Until then I will go to Hungary for MTB Orienteering on 25th-26th July.

Uhh, this is my first post in english and I'll try to put more words in next one.
